The next meeting of the Board of Directors will be Thursday, September 29, 2011, at 7:00 pm, in the social hall of Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church, located at 1 Elks Point Road, Round Hill Nevada.  All are welcome to attend.  Please see the Events Calendar for more inforation, including a meeting agenda.

Saint Joseph CLT will begin updating its membership rolls during the months of October and November, 2011.  All members and supporters should receive a membership renewal notice and information survey during these months, followed by a telephone call from one of our volunteers to verify information.  We appreciate your support.

The ninth Annual Meeting of the Membership and Board of Directors was held on June 15, 2011.  Thank you to all who participated in the meeting in person, or by proxy vote.  At this meeting,  the membership elected Lalo Munoz  for California Lessee  Member Representative and Lyn Barnett for California General Member Representative.  The Board of Directors voted to appoint Rev. Msgr. Murrough Wallace as California Supporting Member Representative.  All newly elected Board members will serve a two year term of office.  Next year, at the tenth Annual Meeting, the membership will be asked to elect three Board members from Nevada. 

At the meeting, the Board re-appointed Lyn Barnett as President, Lalo Munoz as Vice President, Mike Riley as Treasure, and Francie Alling as Secretary.  Fr. Wallace volunteered to be Board Chaplin for another year.

Other items on the Agenda included the setting of annaul membership dues and monthly lease fees.  The Membership voted to not raise these dues and fees again this year due to the current state of the economy. For Fiscal Year 2011-2012, regular membership dues will be $25 for individuals and $100 for businesses and organizations.  Lease fees will remain the same.  (These fees vary, and are based on residential unit size and income levels). 

At the Annual meeting, Mike Richards from Interstate Realty Management (IRM), gave the Board and Membership an update on the operation of Sierra Garden Apartments in South Lake Tahoe.  (IRM is the contract management company for Sierra Gardens.)  This update included City and HUD inspections, wear and tear on building siding, and management/maintenance staff changes, and IRM’s customer philospophy.

The Annual Meeting next year will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the founding of Saint Joseph Community Land Trust!

The Ninth Annual Meeting of the Membership has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 7:00 PM, in Globin Hall, Saint Theresa Catholic Church, South Lake Tahoe, California.  On the agenda will be the election of all three California board member positions.  Agendas will be posted on this website and mailed during the week on June 6.  Anyone interested in running (or nominating) a person for board position, should attend this meeting.  Please call Lyn Barnett, President, at (530) 307-1256 if you have any questions.

Thank you to all who braved the first blizzard of the season to attended the fundraiser at Chevy’s Restaurant on Sunday November 21, 2010. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will be donated to Saint Joseph CLT. Thank you Chevy’s for your continued support of affordable housing at Lake Tahoe.

On November 19, 2010, Lalo Munoz was appointed to fill the California Lessee Board Representative position vacated by Vice President Yvonne Cohns last summer.  Mr. Munoz and his wife Maria are the owners of the first moderate-income home designed and constructed by Saint Joseph Community Land Trust.  Ms. Cohns resigned her position on the Board after taking employment with IRM, the company contracted to manage Sierra Garden Apartments in South Lake Tahoe.  Mr. Munoz was also elected Vice President and his term of office will run through next spring when the three California Board positions will be open for election. The Board is honored to have Mr. Munoz as a team member.

At the Board meeting, Ms. Cohns was recognized for her years of dedicated service to Saint Joseph Community Land Trust, and for her special care of Sierra Garden Apartment residents. Although no longer on the Board, Ms. Cohns pledged her continued support of SJCLT as an active volunteer member.

Saint Joseph Community Land Trust’s new and improved website went live on Friday, October 8, 2010.  The new website is easier navigate and update, and includes information requested by our members. Funding for the update was generously donated by the Jacquish Kenninger Foundation; Doug and Jill Teakell, Century 21 Tahoe Paradise Realty, and others. Our web designers, Hannah Bernard with Highmark Designs, and Kathleen Hood with KPP Golden Connection, gave SJCLT a discounted rate for their work.

Saint Joseph Community LLC, which owns Sierra Garden Apartments in South Lake Tahoe, California, is negotiating a new property management contract with The Michaels Organization/Interstate Realty Management (IRM) to replace the current contract with the PAM Companies.  PAM, which has managed Sierra Garden Apartments since 1974, was recently purchased by IRM, the largest owner and manager of affordable housing in the United States.  The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved the management transfer.

We see this change in management as an opportunity to improve services to our residents and look forward to working with the largest affordable housing management company in the country.
